CBR Test Machine, Automatic

CBR Test Machine is used to determine the strength of subgrade soils and base course materials by measuring the pressure required to penetrate a soil sample with a plunger of standard size. This penetration resistance is compared to the penetration resistance of a standard crushed stone material. The ratio of the two penetration resistances is the California Bearing Ratio, which is used to assess the immediate bearing index of the soil for pavement design, road construction, and foundation engineering.

Features of CBR Test Machine

Standard

  • BS 1377-4 (British Standard 1377-4): Procedures for determining the maximum dry density and optimum moisture content of soil when compacted in a standard compaction mold under various conditions.
  • EN 13286-47 (European Standard 13286-47): Procedures for determining the California Bearing Ratio (CBR), immediate bearing index, and linear swelling of soils and aggregates.
  • ASTM D 1883: Procedures for determining the CBR of laboratory-compacted soils subjected to applied loads under standardized conditions. This test method is widely used for evaluating the load-bearing capacity of soils used in road construction and pavement design.
  • AASHTO T 193: Procedures for determining the California Bearing Ratio (CBR) of soils, guiding for assessing the load-bearing capacity of soils for highway and transportation infrastructure projects.

Test Procedure of CBR Test Machine

  1. Prepare Soil: Get a good soil sample, make sure it's clean, and put it into a mould. 
  2. Set Up the Tester: Make sure the Auto CBR Tester is set up and ready to go. Follow the instructions to get it calibrated.
  3. Start the Test: Apply a load to the soil sample in stages. The machine will automatically measure how much the soil compresses at each stage.
  4. Record Data: The machine will keep track of the load applied and how much the soil squishes. This data helps calculate the CBR value.
  5. Calculate CBR: Use the data to figure out the California Bearing Ratio (CBR). It's a measure of how strong the soil is.
  6. Check the Results: See if the CBR value meets the project requirements or standards.
  7. Clean Up and Reset: Clean the Auto CBR Tester and get it ready for the next test.
  8. Keep Records: Write down all the important info about the test, like what soil you used and the results.
